Provenance

ZOIC ANDROID (In Vogue). (Original collage on Japanese hand-made tissue paper, 99cms x 65cms (approx), Titled and signed by the artists). Also made as an edition of 45. ZOIC ANDROID (Hollywood). (Original collage on Japanese hand-made tissue paper, 99cms x 65cms (approx), Titled and signed by the artists). Also made as an edition of 45. The ZOIC ANDROID montages were produced in the 80's - The idea started when John & Molly were invited to try out a massive Omega computer installed at Norwich Art School. the collected magazine clippings were scanned onto video and them used as components to build the images. Variations could be saved onto video and projected life-size. The digital images were lost so the cuttings were cut by hand and montaged onto Japanese Tissue by John & Molly. The name was taken from their son's plastic toys called Zoids - an abbreviation of Zoic Androids. Proustian in concept - these disjointed images evolved, sometimes as assimilations of the immediate past and present or ghosts from the subconscious that couldn't be reconciled but certainly reflected the irony felt by J&M as they became more involved in the world of Designer Fashion. In 1989, the montages became screen-prints for T-shirts that were marketed mostly in Japan and the US. They included lyrical metaphors stamped with Chrome foil - "Expose the Pose - Photo Flash - Stash the Cash" and "Zipped In - Stitched Up - Packed Meat - So Sweet" In 2009 the collection of 4 ZOIC ANDROIDS were produced as 'Montage editions" - all of the individual pieces hand - cut by John and Molly and assembled as single units. J&M have used the same 'deconstructed' approach as they did for the original artworks of the 70's and 80's t-shirts.
