In 1987, Gamble got his most memorable assignment. Andy Warhol had just died and Sotheby’s was planning an auction of his estate. Warhol manager Fred Hughes contacted Gamble through the Observer and hired him to shoot the house.
Left to shoot in the untouched house for 10 days, the photographer captured images that spoke less about the artist’s fame and influence and more about the man.
In these works Mr. Gamble offers a glimpse into the private life of an artist whose impact on art, society and popular culture is undeniable and probably incalculable.
